William Mavitta Snr was born in 1831. In 1816 William co-founded the Birmingham Small Arms Company, which mass produced guns entirely by machinery. In 1875 William co-founds W.H Brown & Co, which was later name Mavitta. This company was a mathematical scale, rule and engine dividers manufacturer in Birmingham. William establishes the “W. Mavitta’s Prize for Mechanical Drawing” at the University College London in 1880. He passed away in 1897, however his son William Mavitta Jnr followed his footsteps and made a great success by developing Mavitta drafting machines, which started selling in Europe and America in 1939. In 2007, Morson Group acquired Mavitta Design Engineering services, and continues to be a successful to this very day.
